Real success is achieved when you make people around you succeed

Hello Readers,
I want to use this platform to appreciate the hard work of an individual who will always be one of the person all teachers and mentors would look up to.

I really hope that you might have heard about him in the amazing years you have spent on the planet Earth. If you haven't heard of him, I promise you won't forget his name when I explain why he is so amazing.

Okay, firstly stating the facts, in India the most prestigious, prominent, most competitive and highly sort after examination, is for getting admissions into an IIT (India Institute of Technology) for pursing engineering. Being such a vital examination for so many students, there are numerous coaching and training institute that prepare students for this examination and also charge pretty heavily.

The main character to be taken into note in this whole situation stated above is Mr. Anand Kumar. He is doing something very extra ordinary. He is doing exact opposite for the situation stated above.

Anand Kumar is teaching economically poor yet intelligent students for getting admission into the prestigious IITs. Now the main part is he does all that for free, no charges from the students.

Anand Kumar selects 30 students every year and trains them. His organization thus is named the Super 30. He takes care of all their basic necessities all my himself, keeps them in his house. Isn't it so so amazing?

He has been doing this for the last 15 years and the results have been overwhelming, most of the 30 students land into the IITs. His family really supports his initiative and helps him in every way.

If you are thinking to donate funds to keep his organization sustained, I really appreciate your thoughts but the matter of fact is, he doesn't even accept donations of any kind. Is he even human?

He has also been invited in some top level universities like the MIT and the Harvard for giving lectures to students and spread his thoughts.

Such brilliant minded and society driven individuals are very rare to find and serve as an inspiration to all of us. Do share your views in the comments.

Are smaller achievements by center being over hyped while bigger achievements by state not so amplified

Hello readers,
If you would be following the news channels in the recent times, you would have come across the multi multi billionaire project being launched in the south western part of India.

Yes, its the project involving the full development of bullet trains from Ahmedabad in Gujarat to Mumbai in Maharashtra.
It would be costing India some thing over 1 lakh crore Indian rupee, 83 percent of which would be funded by Japan at an interest rate of 0.1 percent and payable in 50 years. The project would be completed with technical assistance from Japan.

So, does India really need a super fast rail transportation system? That too at a time where the current rail transportation is seeing a misshaping every few days ? That too at a time where India is still struggling to uplift the people living below the poverty line? That too just to sever the upper middle class citizens because only they can afford the cost of travel? I guess the answer is a no.

The center government is clearly trying to work upon the upper floors without much caring about the base of the building. Would such a system last long?

It's good that the center is trying to make emphasis on making the nation technological more sound. But would that do any good? It would just make the rich people more richer and the poor people more poorer. No doubt that technology is important but is of no good if basic fundamental requirements of citizens are not fulfilled.

The central government might be receiving great applause because of the multi billion project it is going to take off. The media and news channels get enough spicy elements from this to display to the people.

But the media finds nothing so important of what is being done by the state government by a different political part.

A state government is building well maintained low cost clinics for the people in the state, which would provide people with almost free medical services.
Isn't this an act of strengthening the base of the building instead of the upper floors? But why aren't the media house publicizing it enough? Why it is not being treated at an equal platform as the bullet train project?

Aren't the central government and media houses trying to play with minds of people through psychological tricks of showing themselves doing great and superior endeavors?

Appreciation Is All It Needs

Hey.
Have you been ever been worried about certain people who are not doing something that you expect them to do? You must have experienced this sometime in your life.
I can definitely give you some concrete psychological reasons as to why this is happening and how to turn the table in your favor.

Okay, so when a certain incident happens you can handle it in two broad ways; one being the positive way and other being the negative way. Yes, yes there is a psychology behind everything.

Take for example, you wish to teach your students in the class a certain set of rules to be maintained in the class.
So, you have taught the rules to the students.
And then you check regularly how well are they following the rules.

So, one would punish the student or warn when the rules are not followed. And it is hoped that with the punished thing around the students, the things would change and students would obey the rules in the class.
But, it is not the best way to make the students follow the rules or for the fact anything.

The ideal way is, to appreciate the student when he or she follows the rule. May be all the rules haven't been followed but even if one rule is followed appreciate that with something like a chocolate or claps in front of the class.

This minor change of appreciating good and not cursing for the bad can produce great results.
This fundamental psychological principle can be applied to various sectors.

A billionaire company owned by Monk

A ten thousand crores profitable Indian company, the Patanjali. The company is mainly owned in terms of shares and stakes by two people, who are basically monks in layman's language, the two persons live a modest life, no family to look after, wearing bare minimum clothes required to cover the body, inspiring people to do yoga and most importantly making India bend towards Ayurvedic, herbal and traditional products instead of the products sold by foreign companies in India. Sounds all good till here, patriotism at its best and I am no employ of a foreign company who would display irrational views about the company.

I would try to highlight the possible psychology being used behind the growing market of the company.

Courtesy: Wikipedia
Firstly, it is a great thing that the company is doing and their mission seems very cool and patriotic. They clearly want no foreign company to sell their products in India. Patanjali wants only Indian made Indian company's product to be sold in India. But slowly, over the years, they have started overdoing work towards their mission. Because of this, even Indian based companies who are completely settled in India and are selling products to Indians, are finding hard to compete with the Patanjali.

Now, coming to the psychological tricks that Patanjali is using here; they use words like " herbal", " Ayurvedic", " Traditional ", "Pure"," Indian" along with the products they sell. What this does is, it makes people more attracted towards their products by the medium of patriotism. An example to make you understand this thing even better, it is the same way companies use "sexy" models around cars to make a statement that even theirs cars are sexy.

The other psychological trick used is the concept of familiarity. Being law abiding citizens of the country every person is very familiar with words like traditional, Indian, Ayurvedic and we often cling to things related or associated with them. Patanjali is using this familiarity and people's previous exposures to these words to reach every house in India.

Also, in its advertisements the company urges every citizen  to use its product for the sake of being truthful citizens of the country, which is a great way of advertising as people would love to use and be associated with such a company which talks about and makes them more indulged with their own country.

Also, another psychological trick used is the principle of attraction and first impression. People of a country like being called truthful citizens. And Patanjali created its first impression on the people by calling themselves as a company made in India for the Indian people to serves the country. Thus people get easily impressed to buy their products.

The usage of these words attract a lot of people and also their patriotic feelings. This is a really good way to advertise the company and make themselves an every house product.

Patanjali presently is a big brand even in the smallest of the grocery shops even in the distant parts of the country. They sell everything from food products, to cosmetic products, to consumable water and are planning to sell clothes in near future.

The marketing strategy opted by the company is amazing as they are hitting to that part of our internal system called " patriotism" that no one can say no to. Full marks to the strategy the employ to advertise themselves.

I personally feel, it's a good thing what Patanjali is doing, but their entire motive can be questioned by the fact that their products are expensive and thus available to only upper middle class, and though they are making a profit of ten thousand crores annually, the prices of the products haven't lured down.

Giving a little more insinght of the company; Patanjali sells products made mainly from nature and they wish to provide people purest of the products. Apart from selling products Pantanjali has various health and educational institutions which are helping people live a better life.

A 11 year old company is surely giving competitions to top brands, which is good in a way as even other companies would strive to deliver even better products.

Why Good People turn into Bad ones ?

Have you ever found the most sorted person doing something really nasty, something that doesn't suit their regular sorted personality, something surprising even your live vision of what it has seen?

There is a concrete, sound psychology happening behind this thing. It's called the " power of context ". The context can test the better of even the good people.

By context I mean the situation the person is subjected to; the situation which makes the good person to do evil things.

Here is an example of the same; consider this image. And identify the middle image.
In the first figure, you would say the middle figure between A and C is the alphabet B. While, looking at the second figure, you would say it is the number 3 which is between 1 and 2. But let me tell you the middle figure is the same in both the cases.
This is the power of context.

This psychology is very well used in the advertisement world. You would have wondered why there are attractive looking girls/boys around car advertisements. There is a reason for this, as people find the girl/boy around the car, very attractive, they tend to associate the car with the same values, they would see the car also attractive. This is a fantastic use of the power of context.

There is an famous, controversial yet powerful experiment which would make you believe in me a little more.
In this experiment, ordinary people were chosen to stay in jail like environment. Some people were made prisoners and others were made the jail police officials. All of them being normal people but exposed to a different people. Soon, the people who were in the role of jail police, started to behave like how actual strict police behaves with the prisoners, they started hurting the prisoners, even though they knew that they were normal innocent people.

So, this is the Power of Context. Made you think a little?
